Raw Recap 08/04/19: When The Man Meets A Woman’s Right – Bliss Vs Bayley

Welcome one and all to the Raw Recap, presented by The RevELLEution! WrestleMania is in the history books, with new Women’s Tag Team Champions in The IIconics while The Man captured both the Raw and Smackdown Women’s Championships when Becky Lynch pinned Ronda Rousey to win the Winner Take All Triple Threat main event! But now it’s the night after, and the Raw After Mania usually always promises shocks and surprises… So will we see any new twists and turns before the Superstar Shakeup goes down next week? Let’s get into it, and find out…

Women’s Singles Match

Alexa Bliss defeated Bayley

The announcers claimed the match came about after Bliss mocked The Boxx ‘N’ Hug Connection on social media for losing the Women’s Tag Team Titles. Bayley had control early, until Bliss avoided the through the ropes Stunner to pull Bayley to the floor and hit a KO punch. There was an awkward moment later when Bayley countered a Code Bliss attempt into a pin, but Bayley still was holding the ropes so the ref refused to count. Bayley recovered and used a Sunset Flip to send Bliss into the corner. The finish to this short match came when Bliss caught Bayley coming back into the ring with the Godess DDT for the win.

Becky Lynch came to the ring with both her titles for a victory speech. Making not that if Rousey was ‘done sulking’ that The Man was waiting to beat her again. However, when Lynch was leaving Lacey Evans came out. Delivering what I assume was supposed to be her Woman’s Right punch to Lynch, but it came over as just a normal cheap shot. That led to a brawl between the women, and Evans having to crawl off the stage to avoid being locked in the Disarmer.

Charly Caruso and Sarah Schrieber handled interview duties. There was also an odd segment where Dana Brooke sarcastically congratulated Becky Lynch on her title win.

Show Thoughts: No appearence from the new WWE Tag Team Champions on the show of The IIconics. A short Women’s match. No new NXT call-ups, and just a short confrontation between Lynch and a woman who has yet to even have a single match on Raw. To say that this Raw After Mania was the most underwhelming of recent memory was an understatement. Not helped by likely big changes or call-ups being held off until the Superstar Shakeup happens next week. Evans was not that impressive in NXT and I fail to see how she can have improved when she hasn’t been competing at all on Raw (aside from one loss on an edition of Main Event a few months ago). The only positive was finally seeing Bliss back where she belongs in the ring instead of being wasted as a talk show host. A Lynch versus Bliss feud for the title would be great to see sometime down the line.

That’s your lot for this week! In seven days time the 2019 Superstar Shakeup will begin, and we’ll see which Superstars switch brands or call Raw their full-time home. So stop by then and we’ll recap all the developments with the next edition of the Raw Recap! See you then!
